With a mission to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity unites people to build homes, strengthen communities, and inspire hope. We are committed to eliminating substandard housing both locally and globally by constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes; advocating for just and fair housing policies; and providing resources and training to help families improve their living conditions. We welcome everyone who believes in the right to a decent, affordable home to join our efforts, regardless of race, religion, gender, age, political beliefs, or any other differences that often divide people. Habitat is open to volunteers, supporters, and future homeowners from all walks of life. As a policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliates do not engage in proselytizing. Assistance is provided without any conditions related to adherence to or conversion to a specific faith, nor is there any requirement to listen to or respond to faith-based messages. Construction is a collaborative effort between volunteers and homebuyers, with Habitat partner families contributing 500 hours of “sweat equity” towards building their own homes and those of others. Habitat homes are sold at no profit, with a non-interest mortgage, repaid over 30 to 45 years. The payments are then used to fund the construction of more homes for those in need.
