"We dedicated to providing educational and interpretive programs about the natural environment, principally in the American River Parkway. We connect people to nature and bring nature to people! The Effie Yeaw Nature Center, situated among approximately 100 acres of protected riparian and oak woodland habitat along the Lower American River. The center provides unique exhibits and interpretive programs about nature, science, Native American culture and how to conserve our natural resources. The Effie Yeaw Nature Center serves many local school children who visit on field trips and the local community and visitors of Sacramento who enjoy connecting with nature. The Nature Center is open to the public Tuesday-Sunday, from 9am-5pm, and serves over 80,000 visitors annually. Volunteer Opportunities Animal Care Assistant – provide basic care for resident animal ambassadors. Must be at least 14 y/o to volunteer. Docent – lead group tours, assist with school and educational programs. Interpret the cultural and natural resources of the American River Parkway. Fund-raising Assistant – help implement various fundraising activities including mailings and events. Habitat Restoration Assistant– Assist with the planning and implementation of restoration projects in the Nature Study Area (NSA) and replica Maidu village. This includes weeding, watering, planting, pruning, and more. Trail Steward – serve as a representative of the Effie Yeaw Nature Center as you walk the trails, remove litter, educate visitors about park policies and interpret the resources of the Nature Study Area, a designated watchable wildlife area. Must be 18 y/o + to apply. Receptionist – Support our daily operations. Greet visitors, answer phones, sell parking passes, programs, and process Discovery Shop transactions. Ongoing support and training provided. Shifts occur every day, except Mondays, from 9am-1pm and 1-5pm. Special Event Assistant – assist nature center staff in event tasks. Special events occur year round – both educational and fundraiser events.
