Volunteers in southern Stanislaus County prepared and delivered meals to residents. The United Samaritans Foundation began its mission to "Feed the Hungry" in 1994 as a volunteer effort. Volunteers prepared and delivered meals to residents in southern Stanislaus County. This was inspired by the Christian spirit of giving comfort to those in need. Just three years earlier, volunteers at Sacred Heart Church, in Turlock, had begun a similar food program, Daily Bread Ministry. These programs reached needy persons in Turlock and surrounding communities. The two volunteer groups merged to work together.
